Spinal Decompression Therapy

[viewmedica id=”5d1cf42e”]

Spinal decompression therapy is a nonsurgical procedure primarily used to treat disc injuries in the lower back and neck. This FDA-approved, noninvasive treatment has a very high success rate when it comes to treating conditions like disc herniations, degenerative disc disease, and pinched nerves.

Patients who are interested in restoring the spine naturally with spinal decompression therapy should contact our office.

Who Is a Candidate for Spinal Decompression Therapy?

People who have been dealing with chronic back pain and other related symptoms are ideal candidates for spinal decompression therapy. Spinal decompression therapy has also been used to treat the following spine conditions:

  • Sciatica
  • Bulging or herniated discs
  • Arthritis
  • Injured discs
  • Chronic neck pain

Proper patient screening is imperative as not all candidates are accepted for this procedure. Your chiropractor will perform a series of neurological and physical exams to determine whether or not you are a candidate for spinal decompression therapy.

How Does Spinal Decompression Therapy Work?

Simply put, spinal decompression therapy works by stretching out the spine to relieve pressure. During the procedure, patients sit on a therapeutic table. They are then fitted with a harness that secures them to the bottom of the table by their feet. While the upper part of the table remains in a fixed position, the lower part slides back and forth to create traction. This process stretches and decompresses the spinal structures to relieve pressure.

The computer-operated system is designed to apply precisely controlled tension along the axis of your spine, creating decompression of the discs. The process is fully automated and administered by a computer, although your physician or technician will be there to monitor your progress throughout the procedure.

The movements performed during the procedure are designed to create negative pressure within the affected discs. This negative pressure does two things: it alleviates pressure and it allows nutrients to flow freely into the discs. As a result of decompression therapy, discs are able to retract, taking pressure off nerves and other structures in the spine.

Each treatment takes between 30 and 45 minutes to complete and most patients will need a series of 15 to 30 treatments in order to see optimal results. During and even following the procedure, the majority of patients report little to no pain.

Is Spinal Decompression Therapy Safe?

Spinal decompression therapy is extremely safe with little risk of injury to the patient. In fact, some patients actually fall asleep during treatment. Performed by a trained medical professional, spinal decompression therapy enhances the healing process and offers effective pain relief. Spinal decompression therapy completely eliminates the risks associated with surgery and anesthesia.

The procedure has become a very popular alternative to spine surgery. Patients who want to avoid the expense and risk of surgery are turning to spinal decompression therapy to alleviate their chronic pain. Not sure if this procedure is right for you? Contact us today to set up a consultation.
